Rule Rule Group
A rule is a single condition or criterion that a member or non-member must meet to be included in a segment. Use a rule when:
  • Simple Criteria: You need to segment based on a straightforward condition.
    • Example: All members over the age of 30.
  • Single Attribute: The segmentation is based on one attribute.
    • Example: Members who have completed a specific course.
  • No Complex Logic: There is no need for combining multiple conditions.
    • Example: Users who have logged in within the last 30 days.
A rule group is a collection of multiple rules combined with logical operators (AND/OR) to create more complex segmentation criteria. Use a rule group when:
  • Complex Criteria: You need to segment based on multiple conditions.
    • Example: Members who are over 30 and have made a purchase in the last month.
  • Multiple Attributes: The segmentation involves several different attributes.
    • Example: Users who are in a specific location, have a certain level of engagement, and belong to a particular membership tier.
  • Logical Combinations: You need to combine rules using AND/OR logic to refine your segment.
    • Example: Users who have either logged in within the last 30 days OR made a purchase in the last month AND are subscribed to the newsletter.

By understanding when to use a rule versus a rule group, you can create more precise and effective segments that meet your specific needs.
